Bauvill were appointed to strip, refurbish and fit out a luxury high-end furniture retail store in SW London for Italian brand Molteni&C. Due to the premium nature of the brand and their products, extra care was taken to ensure quality was delivered in every aspect of workmanship and materials ordered.

01

Context & Planning

One of our initial priorities during the mobilisation phase of this project was to host a detailed pre-commencement meeting with the client, project team and nominated Bauvill sub-contractors to ensure that the specification level was clearly established and understood by all parties. Through a clear and unambiguous understanding of the project, Bauvill were able to procure the correct level of resource and materials to ensure that the project requirements could be met. Located on Brompton Road, in-between South Kensington and Knightsbridge, an emphasis was placed on mitigating any disruption to surrounding neighbours and the general public. Bauvill’s project management team, working with the client and designers, produced an in-depth Construction Phase Plan, covering all Health, Safety and Environmental aspects of the project. This included the formation of a logistics plan and key risks register which ensured that every eventuality had been considered before works commenced.

02

Major Works

Over the course of a 15-week programme of works, Bauvill site operatives and specialist sub-contractors delivered the following items: Large sections of steel installed to strengthen the floor and support the new staircase. Specialist polished plaster applied to the walls and ceilings, coloured to the client’s specification. The existing basement level screed floor was removed and re-levelled. Bespoke stone tiles adhered to the newly laid base with expansion joints positioned to line through with other finishes in the area. A new bespoke staircase was installed which involved removal of a large section of floor where the new supporting steels were installed. The walls were clad with timbers and polished plaster, with feature lighting running around the handrails. The main store lighting consisted of recessed track lights cut into the suspended ceiling – this was a feature fitting which allowed the client to customize the scene per display configuration.

03

Completion

Bauvill’s commercial team worked tirelessly to deliver this project to the expected specification and finish of the client. As a result of the workforce efficiency, the client was able to finalise the fit out to accommodate the premises ready for the New Year and subsequently launch for January trading.
