Bauvill were appointed by Medway NHS Foundation Trust to deliver the refurbishment of the existing unused High Dependency Unit located within the heart of the hospital premises.
Due to the central location within the hospital, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Bauvill’s project team were faced with a multitude of logistical, health and safety challenges in order to effectively deliver the scope of works. In collaboration with the Trust project group, Bauvill prioritised the formation of a detailed risk register, identifying all associated risks and their subsequent impacts before producing a mitigation strategy along with the Construction Phase and Logistics plans. This detailed pre-planning and assessment paved the way for the refurbishment phase to commence, with a series of control measures in place to ensure the safest work environment possible whilst causing minimum disruption to surrounding wards.
Over the course of the four-month program of works, Bauvill site operatives delivered the following refurbishment items:
New flooring
New M&E fixes
New Medical Gas system
Formation of new partitions
Sanitaryware and IPS units
New reception desk.
New ceiling.
Decorations.
The final handover presented a complete transformation of the previously unused space, giving the Trust something fit for purpose and to a high spec. Both the client and staff of the new ward gave praise to Bauvill’s workmanship during a particularly sensitive time for the hospital.
