This project involved the strip out and total refurb of the existing school Clubhouse changing rooms, bar area and function/teacher training room, as well as the construction of a new changing block at Sir Willamson Mathematical School in Rochester.
Due to the scale of this project, works were split between two phases with the majority of structural works scheduled during the summer holidays and internal refurbishment works during term time. With this in mind, the project required bespoke planning, RAMs, risk registers and logistic plans per individual phase, each with its own specific risks and considerations. Accommodations were made for out-of-hours and weekend working during the summer holiday, having identified the scale of work that needed to be complete before pupils returned. Bauvill’s procurement team wasted no time in preparing a detailed procurement schedule with a number of long-lead items scheduled to coincide with key target dates, in particular the air handling plant which was on a 10-week lead time from Italy and would subsequently be the last item installed on the project.
The four changing rooms were lined floor to ceiling in a hygienic wall cladding and benching was fitted throughout. The shower area had a bespoke fit out which included new sanitaryware, wet room flooring and ventilation systems. The existing flooring in the bar and function rooms was removed in place of new carpet tiles and vinyl flooring that were fitted by Bauvill labour. Extensive works were delivered on the existing wooden beams on the function room ceiling which required a high-level tower system to refurbish and repaint. Roof repairs were delivered throughout and new windows installed in the kitchen and toilets.
Bauvill’s site team worked tirelessly to give the client an end product that was fit for purpose whilst maintaining cost certainty and transparency throughout the programme. The final handover was delivered ahead of the scheduled completion date and exceeded all operational requirements whilst maintaining robust and cost-effective solutions where possible.
